Characterization of Ex Vivo Nonmelanoma Skin Tissue Using Raman Spectroscopy

چکیده

Raman spectroscopy has shown great potential in detecting nonmelanoma skin cancer accurately and quickly; however, little direct evidence exists on the sensitivity of measurements to underlying anatomy. Here, we aimed correlate directly tissue We acquired spectra ex vivo from 25 patients undergoing Mohs surgery with a fiber probe. utilized previously developed biophysical model extract key biomarkers spectra. then examined correlations between major structures (including dermis, sebaceous glands, hair follicles, fat, two types cancer—basal cell carcinoma (BCC) squamous (SCC)). SCC had significantly different concentration keratin, collagen, nucleic acid than normal structures, while ceramide differentiated BCC structures. Our findings identified proteins, lipids, acids that discriminate tumors healthy using spectroscopy. These markers may be promising surgical guidance tools for resection margins.

Detection and Characterization of Human Teeth Caries Using 2D Correlation Raman Spectroscopy

Background: Carious lesions are formed by a complex process of chemical interaction between dental enamel and its environment. They can cause cavities and pain, and are expensive to fix. It is hard to characterize in vivo as a result of environment factors and remineralization by ions in the oral cavity. Objectives: The development of a technique that gives early diagnosis which is non-invasi...

Raman spectroscopic analysis of human skin tissue sections ex-vivo: evaluation of the effects of tissue processing and dewaxing.

Raman spectroscopy coupled with K-means clustering analysis (KMCA) is employed to elucidate the biochemical structure of human skin tissue sections and the effects of tissue processing. Both hand and thigh sections of human cadavers were analyzed in their unprocessed and formalin-fixed, paraffin-processed (FFPP), and subsequently dewaxed forms. In unprocessed sections, KMCA reveals clear differ...

Imaging of ex vivo nonmelanoma skin cancers in the optical and terahertz spectral regions

With approximately 3.5 million cases diagnosed each year, nonmelanoma skin cancer (NMSC) is the most common form of cancer. NMSC results in about 3000 deaths each year and the cost of treatments is estimated to exceed $ 600 million each year [1]. The most effective form of NMSC treatment is Mohs Micrographic Surgery (MMS) which involves removing cancer layer by layer while simultaneously proces...
